The dataÌýcollected in theÌýÌýgiveÌýMember States,Ìýinternational organizations, donor agenciesÌýandÌýacademiaÌýthe toolsÌýtoÌýmonitor progress toward SDG 4Ìýwhile further providing Member States with the evidence to inform national education policy decision making.Ìý

The surveyÌýalsoÌýcollects internationally comparable data on key aspects of education systems, such asÌýstructure and characteristics,Ìýaccess, participation, progression and completion, school resourcesÌýandÌýthe associated human and financial resources dedicated to them.Ìý

This year, the scope of the Survey of Formal Education will reflect theÌýÌýintroduced in our September data release.ÌýÌý

Key dates for the surveyÌýin 2021:Ìý

  • February: Deadline to submit data for non-finance dataÌý
  • March: first formal reminderÌý
  • April: last deadline for education finance dataÌý
  • May: second formal reminderÌý

ToÌýensureÌýthat the collected data isÌýhigh qualityÌýand comparable across countries,Ìýthe UIS hasÌýput in place strong protocols such asÌýconsistency checks and internal reviews prior to dissemination.ÌýTo do this, the UIS worksÌýwith Member States soÌýthatÌýdata are reported according toÌýÌý(ISCED 2011 and ISCED-F 2013). We alsoÌýuseÌýa common source of data for population and economic data and the same methodology for calculating indicators for all countries.ÌýÌý

Further,Ìýthe UISÌýfollowsÌýup with respondentsÌýshould survey answersÌýrequire clarification.ÌýExamples ofÌýpotentialÌýinconsistencies includeÌýdifferent data values in different parts of the questionnaire, different totalsÌýacross the questionnaireÌýfor the same data, or reported data totals that do not match the sum ofÌýdisaggregated data (by age, by sector, by grade, by sex).Ìý

The data collected in the Survey of Formal EducationÌýare used in several flagship international reports-including:Ìý

  • Ìý(GEMR)ÌýÌý
